If you or someone you support needs a handy or accessible bathroom while you’re out and about, here’s some info:
For the Christchurch accessibility map, go here.
Did you know, Google Maps on your phone can also help you find your closest public toilet or petrol station? Just type in toilet, petrol station, or any amenity you are looking for (such as a library), and it will search for you!
You can also use Toilets NZ to search by city to find public toilets (including accessible facilities) across the country.
Or try the CamperMate app, which includes locations outside the city centres. Designed for travellers, the app locates public toilets along your journey, and there’s other useful information for those heading into unfamiliar territory, such as the location of your nearest ATM, petrol station, or public shower.
For more info and to download the app, go here.

Changing Places NZ was formed in 2017 to provide fully accessible bathroom facilities in public places throughout New Zealand.
Changing Places NZ is based on the Changing Places Consortium, which built over 1,000 fully accessible public bathrooms in the United Kingdom since 2006. There are over 1,000 Changing Places in the UK and dozens more in Australia.
There are currently 10 Changing Places in New Zealand (as of February 2026).
